It would be easy to put the issue down to something on my computer, but I am hearing from more and more people that they are experiencing the exact same issue, this suggests software problems rather than individual computer configurations. It would be fair to assume that TechSmith would use the latest codecs to ensure compatibility with one of the most common online business tools (Webex).

However Camtasia 2022 still fails to import the mp4 files correctly. I upgraded my Camtasia license in the hope that it would fix the bug, figuring there must be some new codecs being applied by Cisco Webex.

Here's what I know: Something has changed about the mp4 format created by Webex recordings that prevents the audio from consistently transferring into Camtasia studio. If you have questions about your software key, see: Where Do I Find My Software Key.

It seems like we are doing TechSmith's work for them, but we are looking for a black cat in a dark room that might only have a recording of something that resembles a cat! I know it's difficult for software companies to identify all the formats they do / don't accept, however it does make it difficult for (paying) customers/consumers to identify the cause of the bug and therefore potentially fix it. To install a previous version of the software, visit our TechSmiths Download Center. We would have around 50 staff doing this sort of work so reaching a consensus on a new screen recording software will be challenging, plus everyone will have to learn the new software! Let's hope Techsmith fix the issue soon! Long term plan is to find a different screen capture software, one that supports webex recordings. I also noted that only Camtasia 2022 supports H.265 codec (video), however I am using this version and the bug still exists.Ĭurrently I am using some free software "Handbrake" to covert the Webex recording from MP4 to MP4 (sounds stupid, but it works, just adds unnecessary time to every video edit.) I found this on the Techsmith website:, no mention of AAC. It appears that Webex is using Advanced Audio Coding (AAC). Given the video works just fine, I focused on the audio. I have checked the Webex recording formats. I have done a little more digging into this problem (Unfortunately, with no help from Techsmith who seem to be just ignoring the problem).
